“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”
Similar will be the situation when you get involved in an accident with your vehicle. Whether the sound is audible or not depends on you.
Are you confused? Alright, let me make it simple. Sound in this context is not about the collision happening during an accident. It reflects on whether you own motor insurance or not. If you do own motor insurance, then the sound is audible for sure. The insurance company would come to your rescue. If not, you are bound to face a lot of problems.
What are the problems that I will face if I do not own motor insurance? Driving your vehicle without valid insurance is not advisable, even in the worst case. So, it is pivotal to know about the pitfalls of not owning motor insurance.
Penalty: – The new Motor Vehicle Bill of 2014 has made rules and regulations very stringent. The penalty amount for individuals driving without valid motor insurance has soared over the recent years. For the first time, if you do not have insurance, you are bound to pay Rs.2,000 or even a jail term of 3 months. If you repeat the mistake, you have to shell out Rs.4,000 as a penalty or even a jail term of 3 months. As traffic cops are waiting for you in every nook and corner, you should go for motor insurance.
Legal Liability: – If involved in an accident with a third party, you have to shell out money for the third party. In this situation, if the third party is dead, then you have to pay compensation to their family. Further, there are high chances of you getting apprehended by the legal authorities. In this situation, you are getting embroiled with cases. These cases might lead to heavy fines and even imprisonment. Thus, it is advisable to have an insurance cover, which comes in handy in this kind of situation.
Time-Consuming:- The insurance company comes to your aid when involved in an accident, only if you own motor insurance. Without one, then you are going to lose your precious time in settlement and legal procedures.
Premium: – Most Insurance companies charge a premium for the renewal of your lapsed policy. Moreover, driving with a lapsed motor insurance is illegal under the laws. Hence, get your insurance renewed as soon as possible.
Conclusion
Now and then, accidents keep on happening around the globe. Some of the accidents might be fatal, while others might only result in damages to the vehicles. Whatever might be the casualty, it is the insurance company that comes to your rescue. Having valid motor insurance would bring a sense of security to your mind while driving. So you have to decide whether you would fall like the tree without making any sound or like the one that makes a sound? Now the choice lies with you.

From the past few months, I have been continuously involved in the process of learning something new. So, on a breezy Friday night in the last week, I did learn a lot of new things.
Do you like to know what it is?
Would you wish to incorporate it?
Yes, I would love to share what I have learnt on that particular day because someone once said that, “Sharing is caring”. If you know that someone, please do drop a comment.
But before that, I would like to ask you a few more questions.
Are you interested in learning marketing?
Do you want to learn more about marketing?
Do you want to improvise your business?
Do you want to know about marketing your products?
If yes to any of these questions, then we are going to learn something new today.
Are you confused about so many questions fired at you?
Don’t worry, stay calm!
Let me tell you that I would be sharing with you a different perspective on marketing, which I would love to call it as “The Secret Sauce of Marketing”.
I have a gut feeling that you might have never come across these topics in such a comprehensive way.
So let’s move on to the process of learning.
Let the curtains unfurl!
“Good marketing makes the company look smart. Great marketing makes the customer feel smart.”
Joe Chernov
The Fundamentals of Marketing
Many of us know about marketing in a vague sense. We do not know whether it is right or wrong. So let us discuss the fundamentals of marketing in depth.
Marketing is based on Science, not creativity
Yes, you read it right. Generally, people have a notion that marketing is all about creative advertising. But let me tell you, no that is just a perception. You will get to know as you progress reading this blog. So after finishing this blog, think for a few minutes and let me know your opinion in the comment section, whether marketing is based on science or not.
Marketing starts before creating a product
You need to understand your customer and their needs before developing a product. Developing a product and devising a marketing strategy would not fetch you a good result as the market is full of competitors.
Marketing is about sending the right message to the right person at the right time
If this golden rule is not followed, then you might fail in your venture as conveying a wrong message to the wrong person at the wrong time could cost you dearly.
Marketing is not about selling
After you sell a product you need to keep your customer happy by communicating with them often. It is always said that it is better to retain an existing customer rather than getting a new customeras the cost of acquisition would be high.
Marketing is a means to an end
The purpose of marketing is not only to capture a market, but it also involves positioning the brands into the minds of the customers.
Marketing is a game of perceptions
You might agree to this. Marketing is very much helpful for a product. But, that doesn’t mean you can sell products of inferior quality with the heavy impetus given to marketing. If you are resorting to the same tactics, then you are going to lose your customers.
Advertising and copywriting is not the same as marketing
Advertising is just a part and parcel of marketing. It only acts as a medium to communicate about your products and services. Similarly, copywriting is also a part of marketing, where you are going to have a better rapport with your customers by explaining the products to your potential customers.
Build a strong brand
You need to build a strong brand. If there are too many competitors for you in your segment, then select the sub-category where you would wish to concentrate.
For example, if someone asks you to name a few popular shuttlers in India, you would recall the names of Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu. Maybe a few would recall the name of Kidambi Srikanth.
From the above example, you can realize that people hardly remember one or two personalities. Same applies to the brands as people tend to remember only the No.1 and No.2 brands in the market.
I hope that you have learnt a few aspects of marketing. So let us move on to the next concept.
Traditional v/s Digital Marketing
Due to tremendous penetration of internet in India for the past few years, you may feel that traditional marketing could become obsolete in future. But, this might be an exaggerated thought. The reason is still a huge chunk of the population have a television in their home. In addition to this newspaper has a better reach even in remote locations across India. People also tune into radios to listen to their favourite shows. Majority of the FMCG companies like Nestle, Parle, HUL; Automobile companies like TVS, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki, Honda; retailers like Big Bazaar, More etc rely heavily on traditional marketing rather than Digital Marketing.
Now you may agree that traditional marketing will not cease to exist in the near future.
So choosing the right type of marketing depends on the kind of business that you are doing.
If you are running a local family clothing store, you may prefer running a campaign on traditional medium.
If you are running an online course, then you may prefer digital marketing.
On the other hand, if you are running a reputed e-commerce firm, then you may prefer both traditional and digital marketing.
In the first case, the target audience could be anyone irrespective of income, age group etc. This shop could cater to the clothing needs of an entire family.
In the second case, the target audience would be someone who has access to the internet. Running TV ads would be funny in this case, until and unless it is a broad-based business like Byju’s, Unacademy etc.
In the third case, the company caters to a different segment of audiences.
Before marketing, you need to analyze various aspects like the products that you are going to sell, the target audience that you are going to cater.
I hope that things are clear to you.
Let us move on to the next concept of learning called CATT marketing funnel and framework.
CATT Marketing Funnel and Framework
CATT Marketing Funnel and framework are very pivotal for any kind of business irrespective of its presence in online or not.
This funnel is formulated as W=nCATT
where W stands for wealth
n stands for niche
C stands for content
A stands for attention
T stands for trust and the other T for transaction
Trust me, this formula will have a tremendous impact on your business if implemented properly.
So, I request you to read this with due attention.
Before starting a business or freelancing, think about the niche that you would like to choose.
Do you find difficulty in selecting the niche?
Then you need to jot down different niches that you have interest in. From that list select 3 niches that are neither broad nor too narrow. Out of the three, finalize the one niche which has a huge potential where you can be a number one or only one.
After selecting the niche you need to start working on it. This is where content comes to the picture. Creation of good content is very much essential to hook the audiences. Content can be in the form of blogs, videos, infographics, podcasts etc. Most of the content fails to reach the target audience despite its excellent quality.
This can be sorted out by driving the attention to your content by optimizing it for a search engine, leveraging the social media, through paid clicks, email listing etc.
After getting the attention of your audience, you need to build a relationship with your audience, which should result in trust. This can be done effectively by tripwires, marketing automation etc.
If done with all these factors, then transactions with your audience will happen for sure.
With strict adherence to CATT framework, you can do wonders in your business and earn crores of rupees.
“Content builds relationships. Relationships are built on trust. Trust drives revenue.”
Andrew Davis
The next topic that I would like to introduce would be about Integrated Marketing Channel.
Integrated Marketing Channel
What is integration?
Yes, you have guessed it right. Integration is nothing but an amalgamation of different components together to make a single entity which is beneficial for all.
Now, you might have started thinking about, what we are going to integrate into a marketing channel?
Excited! Aren’t you?
Coming to Integrated marketing channel, we can observe that there are instances where good content fails to reach the audiences (Remember, I had mentioned this earlier).
For content to reach a niche audience it needs to be optimized. Doing optimization might not be sufficient for your niche. You might need to run paid ads for your content or the product that you are selling. You should also create social media profiles and feature your content in it and maybe run ads if you have a product to offer, which could be free or come with a price.
Coming to your product, you might need to retarget your audience. This could be done with the help of Email as there are high chances of your target audiences going through it. Therefore we can say that integrated marketing channels are a better option than relying on a single channel or doing things separately.
You might be wondering that what could be the relationship between CATT framework and Integrated Marketing Channel.
CATT framework helps you in making wealth; while Integrated marketing channel helps you in getting the attention of your audience (attention is a part of CATT framework).
I hope that you have connected the dots.
Are you willing to learn more?
Thank you for showing interest.
The next concept that I would like to introduce is about Personal Branding.
Personal Branding
You may be wondering, that why should I do personal branding?
The answer is simple. Personal branding is very important because people want to hear from you and not from the brand. Only you can communicate with the people and not the brand. If you build a personal brand, people would be very enthusiastic about the brands that you are going to launch.
For example, people would be very much enthusiastic about what new product or service would be launched by Mukesh Ambani through his flagship brands.
Building a personal brand could be an uphill task as it takes its own time. But the beauty of having a personal brand is that it cannot be invested in or sold out to anyone.
By developing your personal brand, you can create your brands for business and those brands could have a better reputation as you are going to be its brand ambassador.
How to build a personal brand?
The answer is simple. You need to undergo evolution.
How to undergo evolution?
This evolution is also a long term process. But, it is not a tedious process.
The first step in the evolution is all about learning.
What are you supposed to learn?
You are supposed to learn a new skill through the basic tenets of learning like concepts, facts and procedures.
What are the steps to learning a new skill?
By understanding the concepts, remembering the facts and putting the procedure into practice.
So let me make things simple for you, as I go on explaining the other steps of evolution.
What will you be doing with the newly learnt skill?
Yes, you are right!
You are going to put it into work.
So let me tell you that the second step of evolution is nothing but work. Here, you are going to practice your newly learnt skill and implement it in your work. By putting it into work, you are going to get practical exposure in the real world.
The third step of evolution is called the blog.
Blogging involves writing about what you have learnt, just like what I am doing currently.
You can also write about your experience at work.
This is one of the important steps in building a personal brand because you understand things better, as you write.
After building your personal brand by blogging, you can move on to the next step.
The next step that you need to carry out is to consult.
To provide consultation, you need to build your brand through blogging, have work experience and also should learn the fundamentals.
This is the stage when you begin consulting your clients, instead of working for them.
After getting some exposure in this stage, you can move out to the next stage.
The next stage is to mentor others.
Here you are going to mentor people who are interested in becoming like you. Mentoring would not only help others but also you. It helps you to understand many things which you are partially or not aware off as you are creating content for your people who are seeking mentorship from you.
Congrats, we are in the last stage of evolution i.e. start-ups!
If you have following all the previous steps with very much interest, this step could be a cakewalk for you.
Here, you are going to create products and services to the problems lurking in the market by understanding the market and leveraging your skills.
If you incorporate all these steps, then no one is going to stop you from becoming a billionaire.
Cheers!
This six-step model, which I have explained just now is also called as MassTrust blueprint.
Conclusion
“Do the right thing as marketers to build trust.”
Jon Dick
Building trust is very much an aspect of marketing. You might fail to maintain the trust if you only concentrate on marketing at the cost of the product’s quality.
Fundamentals of marketing, CATT framework, Integrated Digital Marketing framework, and Mass Trust Blueprint for personal branding are very much important concepts for marketing.
Learning only these might not be very helpful for you. In addition to this, you may need to have a basic knowledge of Economics. Selection of niche also plays a pivotal role for you.
I am very thankful to Digital Deepak for bringing all these topics to my notice and explaining it clearly.
Even like you, I am yet to implement these concepts. But, I would be implementing it soon.
Before leaving, please do have a peek at the further reading section.
Thank you!
Happy learning!

Recently, Reliance industries and Facebook announced that Facebook would be acquiring 9.99 per cent stake in Jio Platforms limited, the holding company of Reliance Jio, for $5.7 billion.Currently, this deal has to be scrutinized by country’s competition watchdog CCI in order to be approved. This deal could be a huge prospect for both Jio and FB as they could bring about a change in digital space.
India is the largest market for both FB and WhatsApp as it has a huge user base in India. This deal with Jio,a leading telecom operator in India could be a win-win situation for both.Below table, mentions the different kind of services provided by both Jio and Facebook.
Category
Apps
Digital payments
WhatsApp pay,Libra and Jio Pay
Social Media
WhatsApp,Facebook,Instagram and JioChat
E commerce
WhatsApp for Business,Facebook MarketPlace,Ajio and Jio Mart
Augmented/Virtual Reality
Jio Holoboard and Facebook Occulus
Entertainment
JioTV,Jio Cinema,Jio Saavn and Facebook Watch
Others
Jio Phone,Jio Fibre and Facebook Portal
Combined services
The deal seems to be only for the temporary benefits as Facebook has acquired stake in the form of FPI(Foreign portfolio investment ).This kind of investment is considered unfavorable as they can be sold off easily and mostly meant for short term gains.
Benefits of the deal
Jio has started JioMart to provide access to the customers from buying at local kirana store through this app. After the approval of deal, WhatsApp can be used as a means to order products online. This could radically revolutionize the retail sector , as Jio did earlier in the telecom sector since its inception. This could also boost the morale of local retailers who are facing cut throat competition from organized retailers.
This deal could also open the doors for cross-selling through Whatsapp, similar on the lines of WeChat in China. This deal would also benefit Jio by leveraging its product offerings.
This strategic partnership could also give impetus to future technologies like Virtual Reality(VR’s) ,Augmented Reality(AR),Internet of Things(IoT),5G and block-chain technologies ,as the deal has potential to create synergy .
Facebook could experiment its Libra cryptocurrency service in India.
UPI based payment services could be rolled out by Facebook in the form of WhatsApp Pay .
Drawbacks of the deal
Strong market position of both the players could be a matter of concern for the other players in the markets.
Allegation of preferential treatment being provided to Jio by other players.
Data of the users collected could be used by third parties ,which could occur due to data breach.
Allegations made by other telecom operators regarding violation of net neutrality by TRAI(Telecom Regulatory Authority of India)
Conclusion
There are both pros and cons which could arise due to this deal.It is a win-win situation for both as Jio could reduce its debt ,whereas Facebook could expand its already existing footprint. As far as customers are concerned ,they could be relieved from further rise in mobile tariffs as Facebook is a part of Telecom Users Group(TUG),which is against revising TRAI’s floor pricing(Jio is a strong advocate for floor pricing).
During the early part of my childhood , I remember my aunt applying Nyle shampoo on my head.As time withered away, I began using Clinic Plus, which was available at an affordable cost. Those were the days , when Clinic Plus sachets were available at a meager amount of 50 paise. Even to this day,Clinic Plus has been pretty popular in most of the Indian households due to its all-purpose appeal .Well,it may sound strange, isn’t it?-but Clinic Plus has been used not only for your hair, rather it is pretty popular for mopping the floor, washing the vehicles etc. Oh , I remember using it few weeks ago for cleaning my kitchen’s attic!
I remember never having any issues while using Clinic Plus, as it was a pretty good shampoo. Everything was going fine until then. But my journey with Clinic Plus as a shampoo for my wavy hair was cut short by a misleading ad which used to appear in between soap operas, I no longer remember (Rather,I would not like to). This ad was about an anti-dandruff shampoo ,which was endorsed by Mr. John Abraham. Tell me,who would not be fooled by an ad which displays a famous celebrity with long silky hair without any dandruff on his head.
I went on persisting my mother that this shampoo was way better than Clinic Plus by arguing that it could make my hair silky. During those days, this shampoo used to cost Rs. 2 per sachet.I could procure it easily ,as it was available in our shop, which was run by my mother. After applying this shampoo for nearly two years, I realized that the hair on my head was on the verge of ‘all clear’,just like a pesticide reducing the fertility of land .From, there on, began my quest of finding an ideal shampoo for my delicate scalp. During this phase,I started consulting my friends and sister regarding shampoo . But, they always suggested some shampoos by Himalaya,CavinKare,HUL,PNG and they didn’t even spare me from using Patanjali . But, none of them worked for me, maybe, due to delicateness of my hair or due to presence of too many chemicals in those shampoos. In despair, I began using a shampoo suggested by a Dermatologist .Even-though, it prevented hair loss, soon I realized that it turned out to be an annoyance for me as things started to appear in the form of side-effects.
Soon, I lost hope in my struggle against hair loss. Then, once again I began using Clinic Plus, which now was(is) available at Re.1 with same nostalgic aroma and 20% extra quantity, which every loyal customer could be proud off. Things were going as usual,I never bothered about my hair loss.
During those days, I was an avid Quora user and contributor. I was kind of advocate for it and began endorsing it to my friends and also to my sister. My sister also got addicted to Quora. She is very much health conscious, unlike me. Once, while scrolling through the feed, she came across a user who mentioned about a shampoo with minimum chemicals in it. Basically, this shampoo comes under the ambit of Khadi India. So, the very next day,she brought a bottle of this shampoo from a store near her office and started using it. Even-though , I was hesitant initially, I began using it after few days after doing some research about it .After using this shampoo, I realized that not a single shampoo in the world can protect you from hair-fall. Even-though, I experienced hair fall in the initial stage, my fondness to this shampoo grew because it was made from herbal extracts, whose aroma was pleasant. Moreover, it did repair my hair from further damages. Due to this, gradually I have started loosing lesser amount of hair, thereby reducing my chances of getting balder soon!
Despite being a mid 90’s born ,Doordarshan was pretty popular during my early childhood days in spite of the growing popularity of channels like Sony TV,Star Plus, Zee TV,Sab TV etc in the national circuit and regional channels like Sun TV, Udaya TV, ETV etc during this time. The success of Doordarshan during this period can be attributed to TV shows like Shaktimaan ,Vishnu Puraan ,Shaka Laka Boom Boom,Jasoos Vijay(In collaboration with BBC) etc which kept audiences glued to DD National. DD tasted success during the beginning of this millennium(2000-2001) against its arch rival Star Plus through its sister channel DD Metro and dethroned Star Plus for a brief period of time due to its free to air (FTA) and Pan-Indian presence .During this period,DD Metro aired many genres of TV programmes by collaborating with 9 Gold.It also aired dubbed movies from English and other languages into Hindi during this period. But,this success of DD was short lived as it failed to capitalize its success due to stringent rules ,which did not seem feasible to the production houses. Gradually, they started abandoning Doordarshan and moved towards private channels. Later, in 2003,DD Metro was replaced by DD National. After this period,Doordarshan’s viewership started started declining even in rural areas due to introduction of free to air channels like Star Utsav ,Zee Smile etc.In the case of regional variants of Doordarshan ,the situation was much worser.
Even though, Doordarshan tried reviving its presence by re-branding in 2014,it could taste success only for a few months due to the spike in TRP’s. In 2016,DD did give a try on revival by selling its slots to private production houses like Balaji Telefilms. Unfortunately,GoI did put hold on slot sale policy. The outcome of this hold was , Doordarshan National started airing its already aired programme like Tehreer,Byomkesh Bakshi etc. Till then, Doordarshan’s fate reminded me of the Icarus from the Greek Mythology who got his wings burnt by living in fools paradise. Only two channels from DD tasted success at the end of its period i.e. DD Sports and DD India. The former’s success can be attributed to live streaming of International Cricketing events which was moved from DD National because of the dilemma involving Tata Sky and Star Sports. The success of DD India can be attributed to its re-branding from a general entertainment to a English News Channel in 2017.Since then,it has always(other than few instances) found a place in Top 5 watched English News channel as per BARC ratings.
During lock down
The lockdown has been a blessing in disguise for Doordarshan. Based on popular demand, Doordarshan has began airing many old popular TV shows like Ramayan, Mahabaharat, Chanakya, Shaktimaan ,Circus, Buniyaad, Byomesh Bakshi etc on DD National and its sister channel DD Bharati. The re-telecast of Ramayan has brought rich divdends to DD National .According to the provisional data provided by BARC-Nielsen, Ramayan episode aired on 29th March evening recorded the highest viewership of 8.5 crores, which is the highest among the Hindi General Entertainment Channel since 2015.
Note:-BARC began collating data only since 2015
Future
Going by the new found success,Doordarshan National has the potential to re-emerge as a popular choice among the masses like the mythical bird Phoenix. This could happen, provided if it is aptly supported by the Ministryof Information and Broadcasting. In the mean time, Doordarshan has to chalk out an effective strategy by collaborating with popular production houses and also should hire young talented directors and screen-writers in order to produce to its own original TV shows similar on the lines of BBC’s Doctor Who,Sherlock,Luther ,Dracula etc. Going by its history ,Doordarshan has the potential to cater to the needs of all segment of the society i.e. right from kids to senior citizens. Most of the Doordarshan serials aired during the 80’s,90’s and early part of this millenium have very good rating on popular sites like IMDB.
Based on the ratings and popular demand, Doordarshan can re-telecast the above TV shows (Some of the shows are already undergoing successful re-runs ) for the next 2-3 years. Meanwhile, Doordarshan National can work in tandem with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during this period to revive itself .Going by its potential, their is no doubt that Doordarshan can become the BBC of India provided with ample resources, talents and the promising audience.
Now, the ball is in the court of DD National .It is high time for DD National , whether to remain an Icarus or become Phoenix.
